About the department

  • The Department of Dental Surgery pioneers in treating the oro maxillo facial complaints of the general public and is well equipped with four dental chairs and an RVG unit. Our department is the tertiary referral centre for facial trauma cases from all over the district of Krishnagiri. BDS undergraduates are posted by the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University Guindy for a period of six months as an extended training program (senior CRRI). Our students are trained in various clinical aspects engaging in active discussions with the faculty during the process.

  • Our department also receives 150 MBBS students in batches who are introduced with the basic concepts of maxillo facial surgery. The main focus is to train the MBBS students with systemic complications of oral diseases and vice versa.

  • The various modes of teaching being followed in our department are interactive lecture sessions, small group discussions, self-directed learning and integrated teaching. Chair side clinical exposure sessions are conducted to enhance clinical knowledge to the students.

  1. Surgical management of oro facial fractures.
  2. Surgical management of oro facial cysts and tumors.
  3. Open and closed dental extraction.
  4. Other minor surgeries like frenectomy, alveoloplasty, biopsy.
  5. Temporary and permanent restoration
  6. Root canal treatment.
  7. Scaling and root planing.
