About the department

  • The branch of medicine that deals with the care of children and adolescents is paediatrics. This term has roots in the Greek word pedopais (Child) and iatros (Healer). Paediatrics covers the age of less than 18 years.

    • 2004–Upgraded from taluk GH to District Headquarters hospital with bed strength of 300
    • 2019 – New CEmONC building was inaugurated with bed strength of 220
    • 2020 – Bed strength was increased from 422 to 700
  • In the year 2021 this hospital was converted to government medical college Krishnagiri. The department of paediatrics was inaugurated on March 2021 with 150 MBBS students. The department of paediatrics includes 75 beds for Children ward, 10 beds for PICU, 15 beds for NICU. Our paediatric department is designed based on child friendly environment and family centered team supportive child health care. The spectrum of healthy and sick children reaching this department for clinical care provides the students with unparalleled opportunities to learn and serve

  • Problem solving and research are central to the academic programe in the department. The department has a regular teaching programe for under graduate (MBBS). Students are placed under highly qualified faculty members to have wide experience in teaching innovatively and effectively with state of art teaching methods. Modern methods of teaching are being followed routinely for academics. Our department is conducting periodic student assessment and parent teacher interaction.

  • Under graduate student at the time of graduation will be able to apply fundamental knowledge and skills while treating paediatric cases. They will able to assess the growth and development, early recognition and management of malnutrition. They will able to implement and monitor the National immunization schedule very efficiently. Students will able to identify and refer the life threatening childhood illness at the earliest.
