The Department of Pathology was founded in March 2021 with the intake of 150 MBBS students every academic year. The Department of Pathology is committed to excellence and always seeks to provide the best diagnostic services, instruction, and research possible. Enthusiastic and well-behaved, the Department's main goals are to provide excellent laboratory diagnostic services, undergraduate / para-medical teaching, and creative research endeavors.

Histopathology, Cytopathology, Hematology, and Clinical Pathology are among the department's several subspecialties. Undergraduate and paramedical students also receive pathology training.

Department of Pathology gives comprehensive diagnostic services with multiple subspecialties including

• Histopathology
  • Surgical specimens from all specialties and forensic medicine specimens is being received and macroscopic and microscopic diagnosis is made.
  • Services is also being catered to all government peripheral hospitals in Krishnagiri District where surgical and autopsy specimens are being processed.
  • Frozen sectioning is also carried out in Central Lab for the on-table diagnosis and to plan further management by surgeons.

Department of Pathology gives laboratory services to help the clinicians to give precise treatment for the patients, thereby promoting efficient and timely services to the public.

Library

• The department library has collections of recent edition books which includes various branches of pathology fulfilling the needs of undergraduate/post-graduate students and faculties.

Museum

• Department of Pathology has well equipped museum with more than 180 mounted specimens arranged system-wise.

Practical Laboratories and Demo Rooms

• The department has 2 well equipped laboratories and 1 demonstration room with Audio-Visual aids for UG and Paraclinical programmes.

Central Lab – In the 24-hour Central Lab, the Department has Hematology, Cytopathology and Clinical Pathology labs.

The Department is involved in various research activities.

The Department partakes in External Quality Assessment Services which evaluates laboratories’ quality management system and performance to improve patients’ safety & care.

• Non-Thyroidal Neck Swellings – A Cytopathological perspective in a tertiary care center.
• Histopathological study of Rodenticide poisoning in autopsy cases in a tertiary care center.
• A comparative analysis of coagulation profile and platelet parameters in PIH and normotensive pregnancy with their outcome.
• A correlation study of USG and FNAC with Histopathology in the diagnosis of thyroid swellings in a tertiary care center.

NMC Foundation Day

NMC Foundation Day was celebrated on 25th September 2023.

CME

On September 25th 2024, Department of Pathology conducted a CME - Programme on HEMOGLOBINOPATHIES (A Mystery in Mountains). This programme was attended by all faculties and students. Doctors, Staff Nurses and Lab technicians from other primary health centers of the district also attended this programme

Sensitization Programme on HEMOGLOBINOPATHIES

This programme was conducted on 27th and 28th December 2024 by our department for Lab Technicians and Staff Nurses and Village health nurses of primary health centers. Hands-on training was given on sickle solubility and NESTROFT test.

Quiz competition was conducted on 25th September 2024 on HEMATOLOGY.

E – Posters / Poster Presentation

An average of 35 E - Posters were presented by the students in TAPCON – CME Conference in PSG IMSR, Coimbatore.

Rangoli Competition

Rangoli competition on 25th September 2024 on the topic of HEMOGLOBINOPATHIES.

Museum Programmes

Monthly museum programmes are being conducted in the department by the students to educate themselves.

Clinical Society Meeting Presentations

Our department faculties participate in the monthly clinical society meeting conducted in the hospital – side. In this, interesting and rare cases are being presented and discussed.
