About the department

  • The branch of medicine that deals with the care of Women of all age group is Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This term obstetrics has roots in the Latin word obstetricus meaning pertaining to a midwife and Gynaecology has roots in the French word gynécologie meaning Study of Female

  • 2004 – Upgraded from taluk GH to District Headquarters hospital with bed strength of 347

  • 2019 – New CEmONC building was inaugurated with bed strength of 220

  • 2020 – Bed strength was increased from 300 to 700

  • In the year 2021 this hospital was converted to Government medical college Krishnagiri. The department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) was inaugurated on March 2021 with 150 MBBS students. The department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) includes 50 beds for AN ward, 60 beds for PN ward, 10 beds for PPU, 20 beds for Gynaecology, 10 beds of HDU, 10 beds for Labour ward, 60 beds for POP. Our Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) department is designed based on women friendly environment and family centered team supportive maternity health care. The spectrum of healthy and critical Women reaching this department for clinical care provides the students with unparalleled opportunities to learn and serve

  • Problem solving and research are central to the academic programe in the department. The department has a regular teaching programe for under graduate (MBBS). Students are placed under highly qualified faculty members to have wide experience in teaching innovatively and effectively with state of art teaching methods. Modern methods of teaching are being followed routinely for academics. Our department is conducting periodic student assessment and parent teacher interaction.

  • Under graduate student at the time of graduation will be able to apply fundamental knowledge and skills while treating Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) cases. They will able to assess the growth and development, early recognition and management of Women Health. They will able to implement and monitor the Maternity care very efficiently. Students will able to identify and refer the high risk patients at the earliest.
