Government of Tamil Nadu implemented the Trauma care network in June 2017 in the name of Tamil Nadu Accident and Emergency care Initiative ( TAEI ). Stroke , Myocardial Infarction, Trauma , Burns , Poison and PREM are the 6 Pillars of TAEI.
TAEI was started in Government Krishnagiri Medical College and Hospital as Level II centre in 2019. Later in 2021, facilitating the 150 MBBS students admission, Government of Tamil Nadu upgraded the existing TAEI program into Department of Emergency Medicine.
Since its inception, it has been dedicated to provide high-quality, immediate medical care for critically ill and injured patients. Our team of skilled emergency physicians, nurses, and paramedics operates 24/7 to deliver life-saving interventions, advanced diagnostics, and efficient triage systems. We are committed to enhance emergency care through education, research, and technological advancements to serve the community better.
Our mission is to provide timely, evidence-based, and compassionate emergency medical care for acutely ill and trauma patients while fostering education, research, and community engagement to enhance public health and emergency preparedness.
Our department consists of Emergency Room (ER) for effective triage, admission and immediate resuscitation, 8 bedded Red Zone (RZ) with ICU monitors and ventilators for managing patients with unstable vitals, 15 bedded Yellow Zone (YZ) for patients with relatively stable vitals and 8 bedded Green Zone (GZ) for patients who require observation. Further our department is attached with 7 bedded Hybrid High dependency unit(HHDU), Emergency operation theatre, Minor operation theatre, Dressing and suturing room, POP room, black room and seminar hall.
All beds are supported by Oxygen ports with Central suction, high end Ventilators, ICU monitors, Point of Care Laboratory, Mobile X-ray unit with 500 MA, ECG machines , Defibrillators, Ultrasonograms with all probes, ABG machines.
This department is supported by Faculties from General Medicine, General Surgery , Orthopaedics and Anaesthesiology, ENT , Ophthalmology and Radiology, delivering emergency services by 24/7 all the days.
It caters almost 100 patients on an average everyday , who are presenting to the emergency department , are treated , stabilised and shifted to the respective departments within 6 to 8 hours.
Department of emergency medicine is run by Emergency and trauma care team comprising Professor& HOD, Associate Professor , Assistant Professor , Senior residents, casualty medical officers, Nursing and Paramedical Staffs.

Regular workshops, CMEs, and hands-on training for medical students, nursing staff, and first responders.
Conducting research in emergency medicine to improve protocols and patient outcomes.
Awareness programs on CPR, first aid, and disaster management for the public and healthcare professionals.
Implementation of digital triage systems and telemedicine for efficient patient management.
